This part of our emigrating to Australia guide
looks at locating a job in Australia...
Just like other English speaking
countries, Australia is committed to equal job opportunities for those, and your
qualifications and work experience (and to a smaller extent flexibility) will
determine career, not your nationality.
Based on your qualifications and
experience, job prospects could be better within a part of Australia than
elsewhere. As an example, for those who have a background in suppliers, you
should have more potential for getting a suitable job in Melbourne, and a
reduced extent in Adelaide. If you've worked in boat finance companies, Sydney
will be the major centre of employment, while people with experience in
resources should look at Perth. You might need to live outside the major cities
though, where there's less competition for jobs.
Bring to you any qualifications, certificates and references you could have
if you emigrate. However, just don't forget which the fact that they had been
recognized officially with the government in the migration process doesn't
suggest that an Australian prospective employer will also do it. Local
qualifications are generally preferred over others a great number migrants to
Australia would significantly improve their career prospects by obtaining an
Australian qualification after migrating.
Similarly, the ability you've
gained from working beyond Australia will not viewed just as just as if you'd
spent that point working within Australia. There's not anything underhand about
this, it is just that employers will want to employ those who have assisted
companies that they've been aware of rather than obscure ones from another
country. That is not to convey your past experience does not matter, it is
really not, it's just that you'll be at the disadvantage when looking for jobs
that individuals with in-country experience may also be looking for. Therefore,
you ought to be able to should accept lesser jobs (regarding skills required and
pay) up until you build up some local experience.
